Introduction:
Bomb is a historical informative novel about the atomic bomb during World War II by Steve Sheinkin. It was published in 2012. It follows Robert Oppenheimer and other scientists all over the world as to built the atomic bomb. There were a lot of complications, especially with the Soviet Union and the U.S. government, but they were able to successfully build it in six months, which was extremely faster than other countries who tried to do the same. After their first victorious experiment, they dropped the bomb on Japan. However, even though their success, the scientists were hesitant since they had made a deadly weapon that might destroy the world.
Analysis:
The structure of the book has many aspects it such as pictures. Photos of the reality of the lab were representative of the scenes in the Los Alamos lab. It showed different scientists who contributed to the experiment and the lab. It also presented the scenes of the lab and the bomb experiment. These photos contributed to the readers’ understanding and the appearance of the scientists. The reason, in my opinion, for the short time spent creating the bomb is that there were a lot of genius scientists such as Albert Einstein who had graduated from top universities in the world and with a lot of them, they were able to effectively work together to create a solution with diverse thoughts and knowledge. This was only possible because it was America; if it were any other country, it would have been exceedingly difficult since they weren’t able to provide a vast field for experiments, a secretive lab in the middle of nowhere, and an association of intelligent scientists all over the world. During this time, Frank D. Roosevelt was the president, and he efficiently provided materials and any information needed to complete the project. Another president, after FDR, Harry S. Truman, was also interested in this project. He was later able to be affiliated with this project when FDR gave Truman the presidential position after he was assassinated. The hesitation between the scientists and the government to reveal the creation of the atomic bomb was heavily influenced by the thoughts of the scientists who thought that releasing the atomic bomb would be like creating the world’s deadliest weapon in history. However, despite this negative effect, they revealed it benefited the ending and the declining powers of the Nazies, Italy, and Japan. It also contributed positively to the ending of World War II.
Conclusion:
Bomb is a historical informative novel about the atomic bomb during World War II by Steve Sheinkin. It was published in 2012. The book follows the scientists, especially Robert Oppenheimer, who led the atomic bomb project. There were many intelligent scientists and physicists gathered to create this. They went through many events, such as the first successful experiment, dropping the atomic bomb on Japan, and the hesitation to release it or not due to it being the world’s deadliest weapon that could potentially wipe out the whole world. The photos and pictures in the book presented different scenes and scientists during the six-month project. The novel didn’t just cover the project process itself, but it also portrayed the relationship between the project and the government and the president. Even though it became the deadliest weapon, it advanced to the ending of World War II and diminishing powers of the Nazis, Japan, and Italy.
