This month I did three services with Aiden Choo, a member and the cellist. We did duo pieces and practiced together to match the timing and ending perfectly. Since it was cold and flu season for Korea, we didn’t visit our usual course: 1st floor, 2nd floor, then 3rd floor. We got to perform in the daycare center for the first time and we only played for two floors at a time. I’m really glad that I was able to recruit Aiden because I can see how he is dedicated to this volunteering organization and he does his best every time. I think also the elders there really like that we have other person with a different instrument.
We had challenges in between such as not having full music sheets that we could find, or having a hard piece and having short time to practice the piece. However, we overcame all these and really gave it our best every time. We also had mistakes but we had fun and made it enjoyable for everyone there.
I think in January, we carried out our motto and mission to provide healing for the elderly through sharing the power of music. We played OSTs, Korean traditional songs, pop songs, iconic instrumental songs, orchestra songs, and more. I’m very proud and happy for my organization, especially this month with a new member, and successful volunteering each day.
