The quicksand pulled me up toward the sky and the clouds. I floated in the middle of the sky, the refreshing breeze flowing through the air. I could see all of the views from up on the cloud. The tiny houses in the grasslands, snowy mountains, deserts, and the rivers and lakes. 

I sat peacefully on that fluffy cloud. I wondered how I’d fallen into the quicksand. I didn’t have any memory as to why I fell in. Then, I noticed something weird. There was something inside one of the lakes.

I floated down to the lake. I steadied myself onto the ground. I slowly approached the frozen lake. I looked closely into it. 

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. There was a human with a shimmering tail over their “legs.” I tried to knock on the ice, but she didn’t respond. I put my face against the ice for a clearer view. 

The fish-like girl finally looked up at the ice and made a face, as if she was afraid of me. Then, in a split second, she sprinted away from me and disappeared into the depths of the water. 

I slowly rose back to the sky, wondering who that could be. If there was a whole world underneath that sleek ice sheet that Skies didn’t know about, it would be big news to everyone. 

There are two communities in our world: Skies and Earths. They were the only communities we know about. We collaborate and communicate to make a better world and environment for all of us. 

Suddenly, I heard my name. I looked around and under me. I saw Gaia and Hunter running towards me from below. I slowly floated down to them with a big smile on my face. As I got closer, I saw their expressions. I could tell something was wrong.

“Apollo, there is something we found out,” Gaia whispered, as I came down toward them.

“Found out? What?” I replied.

“Apparently, there’s a whole community of people in the water. It’s top secret, though. We were walking and heard it accidentally,” Hunter explained.

“Oh… Well, I wanted to talk to you about that. The thing is, I think I saw one of them.” I told them about the fish-like creature underneath the ice sheet and how it had glanced at me as if it was terrified. Gaia and Hunter looked at each other with big eyes. 

“So, you knew already?” Gaia asked.

“Not really. I didn’t know there was a whole community under the ice sheet,” I explained in a small voice, as if I’d made a mistake. 

Gaia and Hunter went home, after telling me that they would give me more information about the fish-like creatures if they found out more about them. 

I couldn’t believe it. Ever since I was a child, I thought only two worlds existed on our planet: Skies and Earths. I decided to come up with a name for the fish-like people. I thought of people of waves, waters, and seas. I suddenly got a thought, a curiosity about their shimmering tails. 

Their tails were beyond what I could describe. They were shimmering and shiny, but also sparkling in the sun. Specifically, the one I had seen had a  tail with a mix of blue and purple and multiple layers of a pattern. I thought of the scene all over again. The whole creature, herself, was luminous. 

I thought about the people with the tails. How did they swim inside the water? Could they breathe in water? Was it possible for them to walk on land? Had they known about our existence their whole life? 

I pondered the unbelievable possibilities of their identities. I wondered about her life inside the water. I wanted to feel the tingling feeling of the water, the sea, and the ocean. I wanted to venture through the water, the waves, and the kingdom, knowing that I could have trouble  breathing, but could be fascinated by the majestic view of the city. Despite being a crime, it just felt like the right decision, the correct choice to make. 

I floated back into my home, thinking over the whole day, filled with amusement and fear. The day had been incredibly long, with events that I could not believe were true. I slowly climbed into bed, feeling tired. This was a day I could never forget, having experienced the most amusing day of my life. All my life, I’d been in the sky, with only a few experiences with the Earths. This was the day that I’d discovered a new life, a new living thing on our planet. It’d been an excruciating day for my knowledge. I felt like I’d been in the dark this whole time. 

There and then, I determined to forget the past and start fresh, with adventures. Tomorrow would be a whole new start, a start for me and my life.
